Privacy Policy

We take the protection of your personal data seriously. This policy explains which data is processed when you use Mimir, for what purpose and what rights you have. It is based on the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) and, where applicable, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

In short

  • We do not pass on your data to third parties – we do not sell, rent or share it.
  • Our servers store connection data in log files for technical operation only; we do not use or analyse it for any other purpose.
  • No tracking, no analytics, no advertising – only technically necessary cookies.

2. Visiting the website (server log files)

Every time you access the website, our servers store connection data in log files: IP address, date and time of the request, requested page or file, HTTP status, amount of data transferred, browser and operating system (user agent) and the referring page.

This data is technically necessary to deliver the website and to keep it secure and stable (for example to detect and fend off attacks). We do not use or analyse the log data for any other purpose – we do not create user profiles or statistics from it, do not merge it with other data and do not pass it on. The log files are deleted automatically after a short period; they are only kept longer if they are needed to investigate a specific security incident.

3. User accounts

You can create a free account. For this we store your username, your e-mail address, the password (only as a secure, salted hash – never in plain text) and the dates of registration and last login. To confirm your e-mail address we send you an e-mail with a confirmation link; the account is only activated once the address is confirmed. Unconfirmed accounts are not used for any other purpose.

With an account you can save tutorials as bookmarks and mark tutorials as "it worked". We store which tutorials you bookmarked or marked and when. Your bookmarks and your progress are only visible to you; on a tutorial page we only show the total number of people who marked it as "it worked", never who they are.

On the wishboard you can post wishes for new tutorials and support the wishes of others. Wishes are public and show your username and the date; we also store which wishes you supported, but only the number of votes is shown publicly.

In your account settings you can change your name, e-mail address and password at any time. A new e-mail address is only applied after you confirm it via a link; we then inform your previous address. You can also delete your account there – your account data, bookmarks and progress are then deleted immediately.

Authors additionally create content (tutorials, learning paths, uploaded files, sources); it is stored together with their username, which is shown as the author of published content.

4. Cookies

We only use technically necessary cookies – no tracking, analytics or advertising cookies:

  • csrftoken – protects forms against cross-site request forgery (security).
  • sessionid – keeps you logged in; only set after logging in.

The website does not use any analytics or tracking tools and shows no advertising.

5. Content delivery networks

To display the website, style sheets, fonts and scripts are loaded from the following content delivery networks. When doing so, your browser transmits your IP address and technical information (user agent, the requested file) to these providers:

  • jsDelivr (cdn.jsdelivr.net) – layout framework Bootstrap, Bootstrap Icons, Mermaid (diagrams in tutorials) and the Quill text editor (only for authors).
  • cdnjs / Cloudflare (cdnjs.cloudflare.com) – syntax highlighting (highlight.js) on tutorial pages.

These providers may process data outside Switzerland and the EU/EEA. The files are integrity-checked (Subresource Integrity), so they cannot be altered unnoticed.

6. Donations

If you use the "Donate" button, you are forwarded to an external payment provider. The data you enter there is processed by that provider under its own privacy policy; we do not receive your payment details.

7. No disclosure to third parties

We do not pass on your personal data to third parties. We do not sell, rent or share it, and we do not use it for advertising. The only exception is a legal obligation, for example an order from a court or authority.

Please note: the content delivery networks named in section 5 and the payment provider named in section 6 do not receive any data from us. Your browser connects to them directly when it loads files from them or when you choose to make a donation.

8. Your rights

You have the right to information about the personal data we store about you, and to have it corrected or deleted. Under the GDPR you also have the right to restrict processing, to data portability, to object and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (in Switzerland: the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner, FDPIC). Please contact us using the details in section 1.

9. Changes

We may update this privacy policy when the website or the legal requirements change. The current version published on this page applies.
