Why "Mimir"?

In Norse mythology, Mímir is the wisest of all beings and the keeper of Mímisbrunnr, the well of wisdom beneath the world tree Yggdrasil. Even Odin, the father of the gods, gave one of his eyes for a single drink from it.

This site wants to be such a well for IT knowledge: a place you can return to whenever you need proven know-how – without having to sacrifice an eye.
